Act Early Ambassador for CT Selected
Tierney Giannotti has been selected to serve as an Act
Early Ambassador for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) “Learn the Signs. Act Early.” program.
Tierney will play an important role in educating Connecticut’s parents, healthcare professionals,
and early educators about early childhood development, warning signs of autism
and other developmental disabilities, and the importance of acting early on concerns
about a child’s development.

- The CDC, through its Learn the Signs, Act Early initiative, has material available to the public at no cost. Either downloaded directly from the internet or sent through the mail, this information is designed to educate parents, pediatricians, early care providers, and other professionals on the need for early diagnosis and the potential presence of developmental delays.
- Early Identification of Autism Spectrum Disorders Learning Module: The National Professional Development Center on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) recently posted a new online module on the early identification of ASD. The module comes with videos (including home movies of babies who later develop ASD), case studies and other resources.
- Autism Case Training (ACT): A Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics Curriculum: This is designed to be a facilitated curriculum to teach physicians in training and other trainees about different aspects of autism identification, diagnosis and treatment. You can download Facilitator’s Guides from six of the cases and three PowerPoint decks, review introductory information, and view an overview of all curriculum materials. Additional materials, including videos and the “Communicating Abnormal Results from a Screening Tool” module, will be posted online early fall 2011.
