Transition from School to Adult Life: Integrating a Life Course Perspective

Leadership Challenges for Early Childhood Interventionists: Having the Competence and Confidence to Do the Right Thing

 The Partnership for Inclusive Practices and the Pappanikou Center on Disabilities will present a 2-day institute focused on the concept of leadership in the context of early childhood intervention (birth-5) on Tuesday, August 17 and Wednesday, August 18, 2010. Presenters will be Mary Beth Bruder, PhD and Diana LaRocco, EdD.

Getting the Most from Early Autism Services: Research-based Strategies to Maximize Child and Family Outcomes

Summer Institute: Service Coordination for Specialized Populations

The Partnership for Inclusive Practices and the A. J. Pappanikou Center on Disabilities is sponsoring a presentation on service coordination for medically complex infants and toddlers and their families. Mary Beth Bruder will provide information on service coordinator responsibilities, as well as guidance for specific children on participants’ caseloads.

UConn UCEDD receives LEND grant

The Center is the recipient of one of four new LEND grants awarded by the Bureau of Maternal and Child Health, in the Department of Health and Human Services. The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) is a training program for professionals aimed at improving the health of infants, children and adolescents who have, or are at risk for developing, neurodevelopmental and other related disabilities, with a special emphasis on autism spectrum disorders in Connecticut. The program seeks to achieve its mission by 1) training graduate and post-degree students seeking individualized multidisciplinary training experiences; 2) collaborating with state and local agencies to provide leadership education and training; 3) providing community and family leadership training opportunities; and 4) ensuring families and youth are included in LEND training activities. Immediate Openings for Families As Faculty

The Center has immediate openings for families who would like to learn how to teach adults (graduate students and practitioners) in leadership skills in order to serve as co-faculty in the LEND project. EIEC Webinar: A Conversation about the Obama Administration's Early Childhood Agenda with Sharon Lewis and Jeffrey Capizzano

In this one hour webinar Sharon Lewis, Commissioner of the Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD) and Jeffrey Capizzano, Senior Policy Advisor for Early Childhood Development and Education in the Administration for Children and Families will share information on opportunities within the administration to support early childhood initiatives.

A Forum in Early Childhood Inclusion: Evidence-based Practices for Young Children with Autism, Focus on Challenging Behaviors and Inclusion

This presentation, sponsored by The Partnership for Inclusive Practices, will provide an overview of issues related to evidence-based practices and a discussion of strategies for selecting effective and contextually-appropriate interventions for young children with autism spectrum disorder.
