Secondary Transition Project
In 1987 Connecticut was one of the first states in the country to pass legislation requiring the development of Individual Transition Plans for students requiring special education. Despite this, the federal self-assessment process that was conducted from July through December of 2000 identified several areas needing improvement involving secondary transition.
The Secondary Transition study was part of the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) General Supervision Grant generated in response to Connecticut’s Continuous Improvement Monitoring Process and was designed to fill two important gaps in data sources as to the effectiveness of current transition programs and services in the state.
